Never heard of a Muntz Jet? Worry not, you’re in good company.

The short version of the story is that Earl "Madman" Muntz–who had made a name for himself selling consumer electronics as well as new and used cars–bought out Kurtis and the rights to its low-production Kurtis Sports Car.

Muntz then modified the design of the Kurtis Sports Car to create the Jet, the most notable change being the choice of powerplant: In place of the Kurtis’ Ford Flathead V8, the Jet instead made use of a Cadillac 331 cubic-inch V8, with later versions of the Jet powered by a 317 cubic-inch Lincoln V8.

In total, less than 400 examples are believed to have been built, with this Jet–a later Lincoln-powered car–assembled during the last two years of production.

The Jet is noted to have won Best in Class at the 2024 10,000 Lakes Concours d’Elegance, and has been upgraded with a dual brake master cylinder and a Custom Autosound AM/FM stereo and CD player.

Find this 1953 Muntz Jet for sale from Ellingson Motorcars for $149,995.

My mother's cousin,  mid last century, band leader Freddie Martin owned a  Mutz customized by Muntz. It went through the auction sceen  around 20 years ago.

Never had a chance to seen it in real life.
