This 1965 Shelby Daytona Coupe CSX2000 takes off where the “Secret Weapon” ended. Carroll Shelby built the original Secret Weapon to race the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1964.
Unfortunately, the truck transporting the car to Le Mans was involved in an accident that damaged the car to an extent that it could not be repaired in time for the race.
More recently, Shelby American and Shelby Legendary Cars offered six brand-new Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupes built to the specifications of the Secret Weapon, aka CSX2286.
In 1964, Carroll Shelby tasked fabricator John Ohlsen to lengthen the chassis of one of the original six Daytona Coupes to accept a NASCAR-inspired 427-cubic-inch big block to race Le Mans.
After the accident, the car was returned to its small-block configuration. The continuation models received brand-new aluminum big blocks from the Shelby Engine Company.
Each engine displaces 511 cubic inches and is rated for 650 horsepower. As well, each powerplant is serialized and entered into the Official Shelby World Registry.
Featuring a hand-crafted aluminum body that sits on a 3-inch tube frame chassis, the Shelby also features period-correct wheels with Goodyear “Billboard” tires, wood steering wheel, Shelby-branded leather seating surfaces, Halon fire suppression system, original leaf spring suspension, 4-piston brake calipers and a full light package.
