Are inexpensive MGBs still out there? This one from 1978 seems to prove that they are.
Better yet, this one has been converted to chrome bumpers and features a lowered suspension to resemble an early MGB.

Aside from reputable sites such as this, how many classic car hunters have run across what are an endless stream of for sale scams? I'v been looking for a mid 70's B and have so far found that the British car clubs offer the best chance of NOT getting scammed. As a former fraud investigator, I have come to (sadly) distrust most car ads. One example; a 1973 B first according to the seller, in a Delaware warehouse that included shipping and return if unsatisfied. The car looked great, His story plausible ;"dad passed and now I want to sell his "B", which according to the photos looked great. Suddenly the same car was seen in a Sacremento ad, different seller. different mileage. I had replied to the original seller several times but the final emails were returned as undeliverable. The clue as to the west coast B? The same background in the two differnt pictures...Be cautious!

I love the classic look of the early pre 70 B's and GTs. Drove them 50 years ago as daily drivers. Chrome bumpers, no side marker lights, no reverse lights, toothed grille and red rounded tailights. They had great lines. After the chrome bumpers left, my desire for a B was gone. Nothing against anyone who loves a rubber bumpered car, they simply are not for me. Recently found a 69 BGT barn find. It will be ' limited-restored' to a 'patina-ed driver' just to remember bygone days and still be able to drive it regularly without worrying about hurting it's value.
Finally picked up my 1977 B in July of 22. In the "thrilling" ride from Union City NJ to the Northwest corner of NJ. What a thrill...virtually no brakes and zero power! My wife and i had looked all over for the right one. I wanted a chrome bumper B. I've had 2 1962 MG A's, a '67, 70,74 and now a 1977 in Carmine with a factory hard top. I guess we were blinded by the overall first impression. Maybe we should have waited but the $5000 price was had to pass up. It runs pretty well now. Need? Two SU's, and an exhaust. The brakes have been upgraded to Stage 1. Advice have a car examined by a pro and knowledgeable in MG. Stll as the budget will allow, it will get done...
