That’s right, this Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC was used to win the 1979 WRC drivers’ championship with Björn Waldegård behind the wheel.
For most of the season, Waldegård raced a Ford Ford Econobox RS1800. He debuted the Mercedes in the final event, where he placed second to win the drivers’ title by just 1 point.
The Mercedes-Benz Works rally car was just one of seven built. This Mercedes didn’t just do rally, either, as it also competed in the 24 Hours of Spa in 1982 and 1983.
