Why go through the trouble of replacing the flat-six in a Porsche 911 with a V6? When that V6 is a Formula 1 engine, of course.
Inspired by the one-off, 911 Turbo road car powered by a TAG Turbo F1 V6 and built by Porsche R&D, Lanzante Limited built their own run of F1-powered 911s. In total, just 11 were built.
This is one of those cars, powered by the very same 1.5-liter TAG Turbo TTE P01 V6 that was used in Alain Prost’s McLaren-TAG at the German Grand Prix in 1986 and the Hungarian and Japanese grands prix in 1987.
The engine–serial No. 05–is noted to have been “extensively re-engineered” by Cosworth, fitting the power plant with modern turbochargers, updated cooling systems, Inconel exhaust plus new pistons, connecting rods and more.
Completed in 2020, the 911 TAG Turbo shows just 300 miles since Lanzante finished its work.
