Bought a Ferrari 308

So I bought this 308 last week.

I wasn't really looking for a car, but my friend decided to let it go and I figured this was my only opportunity to have a prancing horse - so I took the plunge.

It's quite a nice driver, but it'll need a bunch of little things to do like some electrical cleanup and such. But the body and interior are really nice. The engine seems really strong, but it is leaking a bit of oil. However after owning an Alfa for the past 8 years I've come to accept that particular charm of Italian car ownership.

I like the colour, but it seems to be begging for nicer tires.

Oh yeah, the tires aren't really suited for the car. It still has the original 14" rims, so I'm looking at my options.

Next you will have to shoot a video. I want to hear that thing growl.

Annual maintenance costs will be very high so I'm told, but I'll bet not everybody on your block owns a Ferrari.

Eh it's all perspective. I spend x dollars going racing per yer. Bet the Ferrari will be cheaper to run hehe.

Nice tin top, I like the color - 308s are fairly diy friendly (for a ferrari). I've got a soft spot for the gt/4s. There's some good diy/upgrade/maintenance info over on ferrarichat

Yeah, it has something to do with the original smog pump setup (since discarded).

The headers and exhaust are not stock. They were replaced when the smog parts were removed.

The nice thing about a 308 is that the maintenance and repairs are about the same level of difficulty as an Alfa Spider. If you were paying shop rates for service, you have to be prepared to pay big money. But I plan to do any maintenance work myself.

More power to you. In the 11 years I've been playing with classics I've never used a pro shop. I did have the body work and paint done on the GT6, but that Ferrari is a bit more of a machine :)

Just like everybody else, I'd love to own a Ferrari but I've just always assumed Alfas or even FixItAgainTony's are too complicated for me, let alone a Ferrari. I've always liked British cars with American V8's like my Tiger and TR8 because they are simple and can be hot rodded up for little expense. I do my own work and could probably learn to speak Italian, but sometimes its best to stick with what you know.

That silly FIAT has impressed me.

Over the past years of teaching myself to work on old and modern cars, the idea of working on a Ferrari 308 doesn't scare me too much as long as I can get ahold of a good service manual and find some DIY how-to's online. Parts prices, on the other hand, are a concern.

Plus, "can" and "want to" are not always in the same mindset. Unfortunately, my E30 has sort of broken my will to work on "mid-classic" era cars right now...

Congrats on the purchase! It looks like the depreciation has bottomed out on 308s, so you are sitting pretty. If you say the thermo reactors have been replaced by normal headers, then you should have alot more power. From what I remember, tires in those sizes are somewhat hard to find.

If you have any questions, my dad was the former Service Manager at Ferrari of Atlanta and has many years of experience with Ferrari. I could ask him questions on your behalf.

Ferari is the choice of man. Thats a great looking car. I wish you have a great day with this. I am also looking for that.

Nice car and good buy. Enjoy the car. Realize that the car will always leak a bit of oil. Do not take the time to fix unless it is a valve cover or cam tower. Upgrade the car to the birdman Ferrari replacement fuse box. Check it out here:
