Calling all Triumph 6 People

As far as knowledge, parts and services, who is the leading authority on performance and race building of the Triumph 2.5 TR-6 engine?

He did have a website @ one time but I think he does everything on ebay now.

I've spoken with Bennett about my project and what services he has to offer, but no I have not had him do any work for me. What exactly is it you want done?

I don't know if he does any work other than his own and for a few friends, but Sam Halkias would be worth talking to.

Steve Smith on the west coast is running a pretty hot set-up and I think a friend of his, Chuck Gee, is building one as well. Those guys would be worth talking to as well.

Thanks for the information, guys. I'm looking mostly for a head guru. As with any brand, there are a lot of differing opinions on what you can and cannot do, and what works and doesn't work, so I'm looking for someone I can trust for advice and parts to build a stout street/track engine. I'm not at all new to building performance engines, but I am new to these engines, which is why I need this expertise. I could do like many and just swap in a different, more powerful engine, but I'd really like to stick with this one and see what I can get out of it.

I agree with your concept: have the head work done by someone familiar with the engine, but have short-block work (more generic) done locally. When funds allow, that is my plan for my Spit 6 and Volvo.

Is PRIRACE still in business? I've dealt with them and while their parts are expensive I've been pleased with their quality. Chris is a good one to talk to if he's still around.

The website is still up, if updated infrequently. I recall a message posted in a Spitfire club newletter from Chris basically staing that "rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated..."

A Ford 302 with alloy heads weighs the same as a TR6 engine and makes nearly three times the power and torque when STOCK.

A GM LSx engine with an alloy block will do the same while weighing significantly _less- than the stock TR6 engine. Again stock. Available for $1000 or less in 5.3 L33 form.

I own a TR6 but am not impressed with the engine and wouldn't put a lot of money or effort into it unless it was mainly for show.

bravenrace, I had Bennett French do a head for my GT6. It is a nice piece of work. Also had a stage 2 cam at the same time. The car really moves. I have now had to redo all the suspension and tires to keep up. I was at his shop and saw several Tr6s in progress, supercharged, webbers, triple stroms, SUs and the like.

May also want to try ~TSI~ which is in Ohio. Even is he can't do it, he'll know someone.

I have known Steve Smith and his lovely wife Pat for the better part of 25 years. Steve is a genius when it comes to Triumphs, and a damn good driver as well... One of the nicest people you'll EVER meet. As for the Paeco folks, very nice people, excellent quality parts and workmanship but VERY spendy. Perhaps a case of "you get what you pay for".
