The only Ferrari I have ever worked on was a Mondial. It was not an experience that made me want to own one.
Man that thing makes a Pacer look magnificent.

Tuned Mondials do exist. New wheels and color-matching top and bumpers go a long way:

That raises the look up to the level of Mustang II.
I think the biggest difficulty is the mid-engine layout while being a 2+2. That's a hard one to pull off while having nice proportions.

There was also the later Modial T, which while it looked the same on the outside had the 348 drive train. That was a huge step up from the transverse 3.0 & 3.2 to the longtitudinal 3.4 and transvers transmission. Amazingly they kept the same 104.3" wheelbase and the minimal back seats.

I've driven a 328 and it makes a lovely noise and it is a special experience to drive them.
They aren't terribly fast (I've had econoboxes that were of the same period with similar performance figures).
As ungainly as the Mondial might appear to some, I think they're alright and I understand why they were created.
I mean compared to tossing the family into some hatchback or the Mondial for a drive to get ice cream, I know which I'd choose.

Seems like just a set of wheels can make a big improvement in the visuals on these, like Ferrari 328 16 inchers. A very mild lowering, like 1" all around (maybe a hair more in the front?) would help visually as well.
A good project for someone else.

False. The Mondial not only looks 80s fantastic, it has a cool name to boot.

Yeah, I have the Focus RS already which is as good or better in nearly every measurable way, but that is hard logic to fault.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the Mondial is the car world's only production 2+2 rear-mid-engined convertible. Sitting here, I can't think of a counter example.
I'd absolutely have one, but my parking situation means it would have to be my daily. While I've considered dailying some questionable cars, dailying a Ferrari from the eighties through a Chicago winter is too much for even me to consider.

I believe they were asking $7000 for it, which I think if I'd really wanted to find a way to afford it I could have. Fortunately I realized there was zero chance of that turning out well for me & I never went back while they were open to check it out closer.
