So my FIL is taking in a ‘67 Camaro SS for payment for services rendered and is going to need a place to store it. He currently lives in Chicago and doesn’t have a space to put it in his buildings parking garage. I found a couple places in the city for Classic Car storage, but the cheapest is $400 a month and requires membership for stuff I’m pretty sure he’s not going to care about.

Are there any other options options out there?

Not sure it helps, but when I bought my rally Colt off Rob Dupree in Wriglyville, he had the parts car stored at the first storage facility across the Michigan state line. It honestly didn’t seem like that bad a drive when we picked it up. Of course that was ~14 years ago.

The further away he gets from Chicago the less expensive it will be.  There has to be storage places in Wisconsin or outstate Illinois.

Yeah he’s going to want some place closer. He’s not planning on keeping it long, maybe drive and enjoy it, but then sell it and get something else.

Well he probably wouldn’t be opposed to the suburbs, but I don’t even know where to start looking, I can already tell you out of state is out of the question.

I'd contact local airports, like the Dupage Airport---as it's likely someone has hangar space for a car.   There's lots of farmers just outside of the city who open their barns to storage in the Winter--- but those would lack heat.   A buddy used to use a farmer's barn near McHenry for this purpose.

Maybe contact the Chicago Region SCCA, or the Midwest Council Sports Car Club for ideas.  Also the Autobahn Country Club in Joliet may have members looking to fill space for the Winter.  I'd look into contacting them.   Also--- don't forget storage areas up near the Chain of Lakes--- many of those boats come inside during the Winter--- I'd bet they'd allow cars as well.

You're right about getting out of the city though.  Within Chicago it will be difficult to find safe storage on the cheap.
