Topic based off of thread on new 911 that went off subject a little.
I'm not sure you can call my '64 Elan a Classic, but Vintage is a no brainer. My perception of a vintage (classic) sports car is:
-No stinkein' electric or wind up windows (mine has pull up/down)
-No stinkin' radio
-No stinkin' computers
-No stinkin' AC (Heater is marginally acceptable)
-No stinkin' quite exhaust
-Girling and Lucas parts are mandatory
-Tattered seats, worn paint, and leaky tops are encouraged
-Must be a blast to drive!
What did I miss?
My checklist for a classic is a bit simpler.
- Is it old?
- Do I want one?
- If the answer to that is "Yes," could I admit that out loud without people looking at me like I've grown an extra head?

I think you got everything right, but the roll-up windows......they're pretty sweet on my '65 Healey BJ8. It rains a lot at our summer car shows here in the PNW.

Thanks Tahoe!
You proved my point. Our opinions do change often based upon what we happen to own!

GREAT ISSUE FOR JUNE!! As you can tell by my 36 year old picture, I agree the 240Z is and was a stunner that totally changed sports cars throughout the world. I also agree if it were not for the Miata, the open sports cars of the 90's and later probably would have never been produced.
I'm off to the "British Bash" here in Louisville Kentucky today. This has been an ongoing show with over 200 all British entries for at least 20 years now. I think it would be an excellent show to feature next year in Classic Motorsports

Actually I think for me it was the other way around. When I bought my first British Sports Car back in '73 (Geez I'm Old!) those were my requirements. Fast forward through the years owning a Healy, 3 Alpines, 3 Tigers, 4 Lotus, 2 MX-5's, and a Duetto, and I keep coming back to Lotus Elan. Although I've owned the others above and driven a bunch of others not mentioned, the Elan fits those requirements for me like no other car. It's not perfect, but when you get those Webers tuned right, and the suspension is set up right, that's all you need for a great ride. I don't want to hear a radio, and I don't care if the heater works, and I really don't care if the paint job looks good, just let me have fun driving it.
