Inspired by the Hot Wheels thread over on the Grassroots Motorsports Board...
I love hunting for Classic cars in the Hot Wheels and Matchbox aisles. Amid all the weirdo "Customs" and stuff they do, sometimes there's a real gem.
My latest acquisition, thanks to that thread, is the Matchbox Alfa GTV. Just like Per's recently completed project, only in white.
My collection is pretty meager compared to some around GRM HQ, but some favorites:
- Two Johnny Lightning Bugeye Sprites - one blue, one yellow
- Mini of unknown origin (China) - Cream with black top, just like David's Innocenti, only without the black stripes.
- Hot wheels Mini - Green with checkerboard roof. Removable body.
- Matchbox Mini Traveller Van - Authentic British parts and service (another recent acquisition)
- Hot wheels AC Cobra(s) - One light blue with white stripes, one dark blue with light blue stripes.
- Johnny Lightning MGB - BRG
- Unknown White MGB - a little bigger, very nicely detailed with rear view mirrors, a luggage rack, etc.
- Johnny Lightning VW Beetle Rally Car- Red with yellow stripes, gumballs, and tiny goodyears. Came with a car cover. Very nice detailing, too
- VW Samba Bus. Made by the same people as the white MGB, also beautifully detailed. Came in a little plastic display case
- Matchbox London taxi
- Hot wheels Ferrari 156
- Hot wheels Cunningham - white with blue stripes, of course
- Hot wheels D-Type - Blue with white stripes
- Matchbox E-type - Red
I've noticed Hot Wheels tend to have the first editions closer to the real, stock cars, and each subsequent edition gets wilder, goofier graphics.
