I've been thinking that a Fintail, S-class, or similar larger Mercedes from this era would be fun to cruise in, and they aren't terribly expensive, either. But I don't know much else about them. Other than the usual rules for classics - buy a complete one, watch out for rust, and the like, what's there that I should learn before looking to buy one? How well do they hold up, and how easy is it to find replacement parts for them?

Gah! I can't place it. Battlestar Galactica?
Parts can be $$$$$ but you can find most anything for them. I really want 6.9 one day.
I daily driver a '70 220D and almost all parts are available. There are a few expensive bits (like say a heater fan) but most stuff is very reasonable and easy to find. The W114/W115 chassis allows much better handling than you'd think and the brakes feel quite modern.
I am local to that car and might go look at it myself.
Let me know if you want me to look at it for you via PM.
I wasn't ready to pull the trigger on one today, but seeing cars like that pop up fairly often has made me start contemplating buying one. This is more of a long term project. Thanks to all who've responded so far.
I know it's not quite the same by my mom has a 1979 280SL (sorta big great for cruising) that she'd let go for $2500 in STL. Runs great, good paint, good overall condition but does have a issue with Hot starts (Apparently fuel accumulator is common cause which I'm planning to change next time I get down to STL). Its a Grey market 280 so no emissions stuffs. Comes with hardtop and brand new softop installed. I believe you may have the know how to convert it to Megasquirt however. It's a great car in need of a home like yours ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/laugh-18.png)
