6 years on, still excellent advice.
I wonder if you'd write it a bit differently now after having been thru U of VARA, and having so much more track experience?
(I go back to U-VARA every couple of years; it's always a great back-to-basics weekend that includes just enuf wheel-to-wheel opportunity to overcome the "yes, i'm scared..." factor and reminds me i can still do this at an advanced age. (Some years I never even get either my MGB nor my 914-6-GT out on track for a real race due to all the usual suspects including family issues, economics priorities, and broken motors.))
