This one makes me laugh every time I see it. What goofballs of both genders. What a goofy car. Hey I have plaid swim trunks, a copy of Playboy, and a brown Opel. Aren't I a stud? :)

Will this happen if I paint my Opel GT brown and get plaid swim trunks?

Off to look for plaid swim trunks.

Yes it will. And I meant "goofy" in the nicest way about the car. I really like the lines and the logo is awesome, its just that what's underneath doesn't quite deliver, even for the era. And brown/gold was a thing but now not so much. These cars are pretty neat to look at in person and It's good that there are a few still around, even if you have to hear "baby vette" for the rest of your life.

Yeah, I agree about what's underneath. Has some neat features that's fun to play with though. Like the roll-over headlights. Baby vette doesn't bother me, in fact I'm considering having a custom front plate made that says "Po Man's Vette". Do get tired off hearing "ya shoulda drupped a V8 in thar" while looking at an engine compartment barely big enough for the original 4-cylinder lump that they recessed it back into the firewall.

So, out of curiosity, what's the performance potential on these? How about also as far as brakes and suspension mods go? I had a friend in high school with one. I have always admired them looks wise. I drove my parents '68 122S he had the Opel and most other car guys had various muscle cars.

The gal in the red bikini looks a lot like my ex wife. She didn't come with the Opel however.

I always really liked the looks of those cars. One of those cars that just needed a bit more ooomph and it would have been a much sought after classic today.

In reply to maseratiguy: Manta is a better platform for upgrades/mods as those have more room in the engine compartment, double A-arm front suspension and a bit wider and longer.

The GT is essentially a re-bodied Kadette. Transverse leaf front suspension, panhard bar rear suspension. Engine is recessed into the firewall limiting some things in the engine compartment and brake booster is in front of the radiator with a rod beside the engine. 1.9L cam-in-head came in the GT, Kaddette and Manta. The GT must be faster as they came with aluminum valve cover and oil pan. Not really any other difference. There are some hot rod tricks for the engine, bigger valves & pistons and some intake stuff that can be done.

What's the connection between Sophia and the Gullwing? At first I thought Mille Miglia but the number doesn't make sense...Or just a cool pic?
