Yeah, the pretty one. Selling off two motorcycles to have an early sixties Ranchero of my own. In researching GRM, I see the later stuff but nothing on the suspension mods (if any) brakes, etc. I won't be doing a 289 swap as the straight six will do what I need.
If there is no longer a link, what back issues do I need to buy?
Thanks, Dan
914Driver, give the office a call and Nancy can hook you up with those issues. The # is 386 239 0523. If memory serves me correctly, we put an 8.8" Ford rear end in it and added a leaf spring at the rear with Konis all around. Up front, we ran stock springs and a 1" front ant-roll bar.
The one thing I would not do again is run the AOD transmission. It never seemed to suit the truck. If I had it to do again, I would run a T-5 five-speed or just stick with the C4 automatic.
Tim
Did you guys keep the Ranchero?

Could you elaborate on that? What is it about the AOD that makes a C4 seem a better fit for that particular car?
Thanks Tim, will do. Road trip ahead.
Road trip from Hernado to Saratoga Springs?
Looking forward to that one!
The AOD was from a full size truck and it never seemed to mesh, (no matter how much we adjusted it) with the small-block in the Ranchero. If was also an early, pre-computerized AOD. I swear it robbed the truck of 50 horsepower. I decided the Edsel was even cooler than the Ranchero, with just as much carrying capacity and more seats up front. So, I sold the Ranchero to a reader in South Florida, who I believe still has it.

Thanks Tim. I've done a couple of C4 to AOD swaps for customers and they all seemed pretty content with the results but they were all fresh builds behind relatively large small blocks in street/strip cars. I could see where putting one behind a smaller, high revving engine driven by someone who likes to go around corners (and be in the power band on exit) might not work so well.

$700 to ship it or about that to drive down and back with a trailer. Coin toss coming.
