Well finally decided to go to work on the FIAT. Always like to get to know what I'm working with.

I also had the roll cage guy come by. Yeah I'll be running my current setup for a while longer.

He wants to rip the whole thing out and start fresh. Feels the roll bar is too narrow.

I totally agree, but his quote was more then my 2010 budget :(

So I'm going to push forward and put the cage in over time. I know there is no compromise when it comes to safety, but goal is to "stay on target" and go racing in 2010.

Back to the car last night.

Removed the foam from the roll car. I need to drop my seat down more so I am 2" below the top of the bar with my helmet on. Easy enough with the seat mounts.

Might ditch the rails and put the seat full back. Sucks for other drivers, but perfect for me.

Roll bar wise, I might have to add a plate too the back end. We shall see and I wonder if its worth putting a down bar into the passenger side foot well?

Removed the lights which will be covered with tin patches. Weight savings hehe. Popped off the cowl and tapped up some openings to prevent water issues.

Took a look under the dash. Some work to be done there too.

I have to remove the MSD box which is not allowed in the VARAC rules.

Yeah, don't forget that any new roll-bar padding should meet the SFI 45.1 standard (there may even be a newer standard for this coming soon).

Should be ok with what I have for now.

Rules don't spec a rating, but I'd think fire and protection ratings are important.
