As of the last time I talked to him, the CRX had over 300,000 miles & was still doing fine. The only "major" repair to date was a radiator at about 250,000! BTW: I feel like I should carry a picture of my old SI with me when I go to meets and shows. No one seems to realize the CRX SI was first sold here as a '85 model. They only remember them in the 2nd generation CRXS that started in '89.

I'm nitpicking, but the 2nd gen CRX-si came out in '88, not '89. The Civic si didn't come out until '89.

It could be argued these are already classics:

Pug 205GTI, especialy the early 1.6 cars that love to rev.

Series III XR3 and XR3i

Series III Escort RS 1600i and RS Turbo

MG Metro Turbo

What is this then?

Also, there is an '85 or '86 CRX Si in my local U-Pull-It yard.

In reply to JamesMcD:

That's a previous generation Civic, not the '88-91 version I was referring to. A new generation CRX and Civic came out in 1988. There was a CRXsi that year but not a Civic si. That came out in 1989.

I believe that ad is for a Civic older than '89. The ad says "Civic Si."

Also, here's a GRM thread about a guy's '87 Civic Si:

1987 Civic Si.

Yes but those Civic SIs are not the EF chassis. He is talking about the fourth generation. You are talking about the third generation. The fourth generation started in '88 and there was no '88 Civic Si. There was a third generation Si but it is not the same car.

Third generation

Fourth generation

Sorry, I guess you really have to explain these things in detail sometimes.

Yes, I know. I figured that out when I owned an '86 Civic si back in the early 90's...

OK, gotcha. I was thrown off because you wrote a seemingly straightforward sentence, "The Civic Si didn't come out until '89." But you really meant "The EF chassis Civic Si didn't come out until '89."
