OK guys, third hand diagnosis required. Eldest daughters 01 MDX 170K miles she's had it two years and it had the glass trans replaced prior to her getting it. She did have all the receipts but has inevitably lost them so can't tell me when of how long ago it was done.
Apparently she's getting this strange vibration when taking off or when accelerating from time to time. Totally non repeatable, can do it two or three times in one day, then may not do it again for many days. It won't do it under super light accel, you need some gas to make it happen
She says it feels like running over the don't fall asleep rumble strips you get on the free way. It makes the whole car vibrate.
Any ideas?
Hmm, could be, is there a check for that?
Doesn't look like it's a code-throwing thing. I was trying to see if a fresh VTM-4 fluid change fixes the problem you described when I ran into multiple people posting that the APP sensor fixed it.
I'm just guessing. It's still free for me to give good/bad advice here, right?
Possible torque converter shudder? If so it's quite common with replaced transmissions. was the replacement oem or aftermarket? I remember seeing quite a few blue aftermaret TC's that shuddered after a couple years pretty hard. There's been about 4 redesigns on them from Honda "fixing" this issue. The aftermarkets tend to be the the original design.
is that car too old to have the 'eco' mode that shuts off 3 cylinders but then needs an 'active motor mount' to solve the resulting imbalance? I hear those motor mounts get wonky from time to time too.
that one of my WAGs

Too old. Didn't start in the MDX until the next body style. The mounts are still suspect, but for other reasons.
