There will be a 1 mile Land Speed Racing event held by Top Gun Run LLC 11/7/09 at the Dade-Collier airport. I attended a race run by a different organization and the track is perfect. If you go bring shelter from the sun and lots of water!

Bring your alligator repellant with you, too. This place is in the MIDDLE of the Everglades! You'll see gators, Indians, and a big swamp. Actually very pretty country. On the Top Gun site they have a Google Earth location, fun to look at, it will give you an idea how far out it is. The gas station they refer to is called Frog City, where the swamp buggies and air boats gas up. The only place I know of that sells real AvGas, because so many of the air boats use aircraft engines.

I will be sure to make it out there to watch. After talking with Andy about land speed racing, I dont think our challenge car or we are up to the task.
I wonder how the exotic owners would feel when a rusted, but well put together aerodynamic car would show up and best their mega dollar car's speed?
In reply to seeker589:
They won't care, I expected that to happen at the last one I went to but there weren't really very many "race cars" there. Mostly wicked fast street cars. I'd bet most of the exotic owners expected some race cars there that would have beat their speeds. Like most races everyone was just out having fun with their cars and there wasn't really any competition.
For exotic owners Top Gun Run is holding a separate event being held Nov 14 so I doubt there will be a lot of them at the Nov 7 event.
I've seen a few cars round here getting prepped for the event. SCT just tuned up a 1387HP twin turbo Ford GT. This is Supra heaven though, as those dyno queens can finally stretch their legs!
Oh and alligator alley is a scarey ass road during the middle of the day or the middle of a hurricane. I almost hit a gator resting in the road going 80mph once. Not fun

Not to be too picky, but this place is on Tamiami Trail. Much less traveled than the Alley, which is about 40 miles north. Also does not have the fences to keep wildlife off the road, so a lot more likely that you will see them up close. You will probably see Miccosukee Tribe police cars, too.
i might go to watch, sounds interesting (and close)

prick :) Shows you how much I paid attention while driving while I lived down there. I'm sure it's much more gnarly than the alley.

There were a couple Supras running around 200 last weekend and a Ford GT ran 220.
