I've been a subscriber now for a number of years and when I came across the 10 year offer with the free hat I thought, Why Not? It's not every day you get something for free. Free is good right?
Even with the exchange rate (I'm in Canada) it's a decent deal and besides, there's a *Free* hat!
Well, the folks at Motorsport Marketing Inc. bundled my hat in an envelope, filled out the obligatory customs declaration and mailed it off to me. Here's where the problem is. Instead of noting on the customs declaration "No Value" for the *Free* hat, they declared the value of the 10 year subscription! USD $250. With the currency exchange rate that worked out to CA $323.72! I was then charged CA $16.15 Goods and Services Tax, CA $22.66 Provincial Sales Tax and CA $9.95 Handling Fee!
Nice hat though!

That is nearly a $50 'free' hat. At least your government does not tax you per picture you link to, or you'd have another outrageous bill to pay. Or did you get 5 'free' hats?

Ya still working out the kinks on posting pics here. I'm used to the "Preview Post" option on other forums. :D
I'm sorry hear about this Mark. It looks like the prefilled CN22 form went directly to the label and was declared as the subscription value instead of the merchandise value, like you said.
We will definitely be adding a year to your current subscription for the inconvenience.
With all the subscription orders coming through in the past month it seems that the details of your shipment were overlooked. Give me a call if you have problems with your subscription or any merchandise orders, you are not alone in this.

Rather than an extra year, how about a couple of more hats? Declared as"NO VALUE" of course. ;)

I don't see a problem with that.
Already figured out what went wrong with the CN22 and fixed it on our end, you've been sent an email with tracking information on the declared "gift" package.

Yeah, but your healthcare is "free," so you have that going for you

Actually, since I live in BC it's not free. $900 a year and it's not optional.
