My wifes '11 Rogue AWD with around 175k miles has a squeak.
Jacked up the car so the wheels were supported and not drooping and crawled under while my wife put it in drive.
Squeak is heard loudest from the drive shaft half way between the hanger in the middle and where it connects to the diff/rear final gear.
Dropped the drive shaft and tried turning the diff by hand but didn't hear or feel anything.
May be cause I couldn't turn it fast enough by hand.
My questions are...
Is there any way to test if its the diff before I spend $400 on a new drive shaft?
What downsides are there to just removing the driveshaft and having it run as fwd?
I would assume a check engine light would pop up, but would the diff/rear final drive become damaged if not hooked up to a drive shaft?
Thanks in advance.
