There is no question here. I'm a Porsche fan, but come on would you really want a 911 when you can have a Mclaren?
One is a sports car with supercar performance. The other is a bonafide supercar. I know which one I'd take.
Test drove both before buying something else. Mp4 if you live near a dealership and can afford the warranty and have another car. The 911 Turbo if you want to use it every single day.
Personally if I was in the position again and had to choose between just those manufacturer I would still save money and get a 650s or a 570s
I got to poke around Andy Hollis's McLaren on One Lap and I kind of want one. I do agree with the proximity to a dealer though. They seem to take very good care of you, but geography can be a significant hassle no matter how good the service.
I am betting there is a reason that supercars drop in value faster and further than a range rover out of warrenty
Sorry, Got to go porsche here. I can't imagine the experience of the McLaren is so much better to make up for the absolutely wallet draining repair costs.

But they don't. Otherwise there would be a bunch of $20k super cars for sale.
I feel like I should make my own of Audi R8 vs GTR. Fortunately for Nissan the Audi is now $160k and not $110k anymore.

Yeah, I think a lot of us wish that were true. Most seem to go up in price, especially the hyper cars.
But the used ones overlap and are a legitimate cross shop. Not that I kind of pay attention to used R8 costs or anything......

That is odd that you say that weary. What are the issues with it? I have read on The Interwebs that the first year had issues but McLaren gave free updates to fix all of them. Every review says it is the most DD supercar next to the 911.
As far as the new generation that is just a body kit on the 12c (clip swaps just like common chassis Porsches). Is it the stylish g throwing you off there?
Maintenance seems to float between $1200 to $2400 between major and minors. I have seen the same thing st Lexus dealerships.
The more I research the car the more I realize it is 90's race tech. WRC banned dampners, F1 banned brake assist steering. Android tablet based infotainment....
So why you say what you say?
I'm not a big fan of high-end cars like this, but I guess I'd go with the McLaren, because I really do not like Porsches at all. But, overall, there is other stuff I'd much rather have then either of them.
Internet reading indicates that the early McLarens depreciated so quickly due to oversupply... There just weren't enough buyers able to risk a few hundred thousand on one of the supercar minor players.
Why not McLaren vs. GT3 RS?
I'd go with the Porsche just because it would draw less attention than the McLaren. Second reason is the 911 is a lot easier to get in and out of the car.

That is because they don't get driven.
Ive spent a fair amount of time in both, there is no comparison in my opinion. The Mclaren is WAY more special. The Mclaren brand seems to be doing very well, I'm seeing a bunch of them around and a lot of them on track.

Do a search on ferrarichat. There are plenty of opinions on them. Short version is the early ones had issues, but they keep getting better and better. Some people own both, some go from Mclaren to Ferrari, while others go Ferrari to Mclaren. It seems then Mclarens bring pretty extreme views one way or the other in many of the cases.
For the original question I'd probably go with the Mclaren since I already have a turbo Porsche, but a 930 is worlds apart from a modern turbo s, so I'd have to drive them both first.

I think I recall him mentioning common issues with an unserviceable gearbox or something. I'm guessing brand new McLaren gearbox prices are pretty eye watering.
Holy crap, the transmission is a stressed member!
and that is a tiny engine!
From what I can find (the one) a used trans is $14.5k
In reply to Flight Service: What do you suppose the McLaren dealer's labor rate is to swap it?
Found this about the issues:

There's a post on page 7 that mentions McLaren wanting $28k to replace the gearbox.
