I put the snow tires on (bring it!) and see I'll need a set of new summer skins for my DD and 2 autoX/year '95 Infiniti G20 5spd by next spring. I've got it handling really well but need better tires to make the best of the refreshed/beefed suspension. I want to stay w/ 14" stock wheels (I've got 3 sets) so the size I'm after =195/60/14. I know I'm sacrificing longevity for grip but what will last longer and be safe in the rain: The Falken RT615K or Drizzera Star Specs? Both are ~$90/tire Any other contenders in my size?

I have had the Falkens on my Miata and RX-7. With more than 1/2 tread i have never had a problem in the rain, as they wear they get more interesting in the rain. I drive mostly in Michigan, we get rain regularly.

In reply to mndsm:

How many miles do you have on the star specs? In reply to pilotbradon: How many miles on the Falkens to wear 1/2 trad?

6,000-8,000 miles, I drive them very hard.

8-10 so far? Put them on in april, and drove the piss out of them all summer. They've gotta have at least two seasons left at this rate, and they're on my DD.

"Safe" in the rain? Define safe...as it largely intends on your expectations. If you want to drive the speed limit in heavy rain, the RT615s will likely disappoint after not many miles (as mentioned above, they get a lot worse with wear). If you want them to be not-scary when wet and awesome when dry, the RT615s sound like the right tire.

proven fact: car + bald RT615s + rain = boat

RT215s on a first gen neon were corded at 12k miles of mostly freeway driving. HTR200s are the only still produced tires in that size i have had, and they arent real impressive if you actually want performance.
