Help!
I'm trying to determine if the 1.6 Ford Zetec SE / Sigma engine was ever available in the USA prior to the 2011 Fiesta.
Thanks for any assistance. Chet

No, it was not.
edit- which was a shame, as I had a focus with the 1.6 for a year to test- it was a really nice package.
I'm trying to find a light weight car engine for use in a new mid engined car for the USA. An older Ford Zetec SE engine would be ideal due to it's size and weight if it was legally available.
NJ is now giving me major hassles about using my preferred Hayabusa solution. I'd like to find a good pre OBD II option if possible.

I weighed a USA spec 2.0 Zetec(-E?) from a '00 Focus and found it to be about 250 lbs. It was complete from throttle body to exhaust manifold; had some brackets attached but no accessories.
My understanding is that the Duratec is lighter and has more top-end potential. You can get them out of Focus' or Ranger pickups, although the Ranger version has a more torque oriented profile. Stock power figures aren't anything special, but they respond exceptionally well to mods.
Not sure exactly how much it weighs, but a friend who's building one says that he can cary the motor around, so it's got to be pretty light.

Actually the 2011 Fiesta engine is a new version of the Zetec SE with VVT so it might be the best solution. The older 1.6 Zetec SE engines weigh 180 lbs and the 5 speed trans adds about 80 lbs more.
The 2.0 Duratec weighs about 60 lbs. more.
The new Ecoboost 1.6 is also interesting but the direct injection could be a major hassle.
Any other light weight solutions?
