This video is kind of unbelievable. The British announcer is just icing on the cake. Epic pass right at the 6-minute mark.

amazing that 1600cc can take on 5700cc and win.. or at least push them hard enough to make them spin
Great racing. Obviously the Escort was faster in the turns, and the Camaro better on the straights, but the Escort was eating the Chevy alive under braking.
The Escort was clearly faster overall, but that last move from the Camaro driver was damn impressive...right until he spun out.
Every director of every roadracing body needs to look at this video. This is what we need. Fantastic.

EXACTLY. No trillion-dollar sponsors, no pit girls, no Danica... wait.
I know there is going to be Camaro hate, but that driver was ballsy too. How he was able to stay ahead of the Escort for so long was nothing short of driving talent. He just got over his head when he tried to pass on a corner and spun.
That Vauxhall Viva GT was pretty badass too.
Its been a long time since I gave a damn who won a race even with a clip this old. I found myself shouting in my head, "Go, you bastard! Go!"
I am not hating on the camaro.. like you said, it proves how much talent the driver had to keep it ahead of the escort on a track that obviously favours smaller cars
I find it amazing how much those cars are street cars.. the driver of the camaro must have been from florida, he had his turnsignal on for miles....
Companion piece, Part 1, shows the first 8 minutes of the race including the dramatic "stand still" start.

The Escort was the Pole Position car.

No hate for the Camaro. Part 1 reveals that the Camaro, which was position #2 on the pole, is the real underdog, who held the pole position driver off for the vast majority of the race. Any horse you choose, this was still just a good race.
