Land Rovers are a whole bunch easier to maintain than Range Rovers too.

And a silly amount cheaper than a FJ40.

That's a good idea. My impression of them is that they're fragile and finicky for daily type use. Is this wrong?

Is it possible to air condition one well enough to keep one cool in Africa Hot conditions? I live in south east Texas.

In was looking at those. The seem to bottom out around $35k right now and as far as I can tell, only came in silver. Not that I mind silver, I just thought it odd. They are on my radar though.

The A/C would be at least as good as a 70's Air cooled Porsche!

I nearly posted a 456 as well, but it's only a 2 + 0.2, not a real 4 let alone 6 seater so I didn't think it qualified for the price uplift.

I wal looking at Paul's (Team Illuminati Motorsport's) one the other day. He said it was a German car built for the British in that it likes to self destruct, just without the easy parts availability. But I think that's more like the plastic covers underhood etc if you want to keep it mint and stock. I think the mechanics are very robust. Seriously, ping Paul a P.M.

Ok, this is a little out of left field, but I figure you have the RX-7 for track / rallycross, the 911 for a bit of upscale sporty driving, and the Ford wagon for funky utility. It seems your fleet is missing a comfy cruiser with a bit of class.

Now these aren't sports cars, but they are perhaps the best built cars ever-- yes ever. Taken care of, they will outlast you, are respected in any environment, and are reliable and satisfying to drive. As a bonus, they are at the bottom of their depreciation curve and are likely to become more valuable.

Soft top-- and hard top are usually included, and you can find a nearly perfect one for $10-$15K. I'd go with a very early car (small bumpers), or a very late car (more powah). The 107 Chassis Merc------

XJR or XKR supercharger classy British goodness. Get one post '00 (or the earlier XJ6R) and you shouldn't have many problems.

The above mentioned MBs are awesome too. Or slightly more left field a '96 XJS? That year uses the AJ16 motor and Denso electronics.

OR for hauling six, how about one of the supercharged Range Rovers?

The supercharged Mustang Cobra. $18K gives you plenty of room to wind up with a daily-driven, 500hp beast that will always put a smile on your face.

Or go the other way. A neighbor has a nice 2-door Rubicon, all black, with some choice bits on it and a snorkel. I smile every time I pass it, imagining summer days with no top or crossing a creek on some back-woods adventure.

My wife drives an FJ Cruiser when she's not in my Porsche so the Jeep has a lot of overlap. I love her FJ. A mustang is an option. We were married in one at a drive through wedding chapel. Never shut the engine off. It was a rental, but there's still some sentimental value there.

I was always under the impression that these were cars that would eat you alive with maintenance. Are they still in the DIY friendly era of MB? Did they ever come with a manual? A cruiser would be nice.

I need to search all of these. I could haul the kids in the Bentley.

Look up parts cost on the Bentley before you think too much about.

I missed this the first time I scrolled through. Are there any known issues with the AMG ones outside of normal MB stuff? Can you tow a small trailer with one?

The early cars can be had with manuals, but you can also get a eurospec car. My mother had a 280sl with a 5 speed. it was an 84 I believe. The eurospec cars also have the small bumpers and euro headlights which I think are cool.

They're expensive when you do find them, and you'd be lucky to have 3 to choose from at one time and you will absolutely have to fly and drive or ship it. They're very rare.

I like them a lot.

456s are also on my radar, but on a longer time frame. I think a Mondial is a possibility in about 5 years, though. Im probably the only person who likes those, so the market should be very weak.

If i was spending 18k on one car right now it would be a modified 2008 Magnum. I dont expect that to make sense to most people.
