The title sort of sums it up, if you were competing in the three events listed and had to buy a car for $18k or less and it had to be stock on street tires, what car would you pick? e46m3? maybe find a c5z06? s2k? 996? sti? Must be a production car. Are there other options I'm missing? some type of mustang?

As for what "stock" means, it's cars less than $20,000 (in 2014, with our monopoly money) with no mods except wheels, tires with a wear rating of 140 or higher and brake pads. Wheels and tires may not protrude past the fenders

Can't imagine anything touching a Corvette. Especially when factoring in tire size.

MS3 - it's good for more than just driving at the track and it probably gets better gas milage, though I'm not positive....

Just to be different.

I would say Z06 as well, but would be really tempted to look for a Lotus Elise.

Let me know if you can find either in half decent condition for less than $18k...

yeah, there's no chance of finding an Elise for $18k in Canada. Things cost a little more here. I've never actually seen a sub $20k z06 here. If you had to take z06 off the list, what would you choose?

I wonder if you can find a salvage-titled repaired Elise in that range yet.

Yup, Z06, they offer a lot of bang for the buck, problem is your chest hair gets caught in your sweet gold herringbone chain.

Not a chance. Elise prices are appreciating in Canada. We cannot import and register US spec cars -- we are limited to the number that Lotus brought to Canada.

I think a C5 Z51 is about the best option -- an E46 M3 may also be a contended. A 996 is an oddball choice, but has significant potential. Just sayin

pokes head in... yep... still Z06...

Elise prices in the US seem to have bottomed out at around $25K, even for salvage title cars. Over $30K for clean cars. When the local dealer gets one, they list it for between $35-40K (depending on mileage) and it's sold within a couple of weeks.
