regarding the tire size: don't be surprised if you are supposed to run something like a 235/75/15 on that thing, but i'm sure it's at least a 225/75/15..

another option: that should have the 5X4.5 wheel bolt pattern... late model Mustang "Bullit" wheels can be had pretty cheap... just saying... another option: 17" steelies off a P71, complete with the hubcaps...

I checked parts prices on Rock Auto just for fun. KYB GR2's are $19 a corner. After looking at Porsche prices for the past few months I thought they were selling the mounting bolts for $19. Nope, the whole shock, $19. What a completely different world.

yeah, I was stunned by my $17 master cylinder and $20 heater core and everything is accessible and easy to work on too!

You want to go to bed every night wondering if the beautiful woman next to you might make good on her jokes to smother you in your sleep if you bring home another car? It's been a weird year for me. Clearly this cannot keep up. I think the only reason I was able to pull this one off is the three on the tree. My wife sees it as the ultimate test of her ability to drive a manual transmission. She has already agreed to electric exhaust cutouts at some point, something about loading up her co workers and the parking garage acoustics and rowing the beast through the gears.
I just need to get it home first.

Tragically I'm maxed out on adventure time right now.
It's soccer season for all four of the kids. Mrs. deuce (I probably shouldn't call her that) is coaching one team and I'm the fields manager for the league. I missed the first weekend for rallycross. I missed the second weekend for MotoGP. I have been informed that there is no way that I'm missing another weekend without serious injury/fatality being involved somehow. Aside from that, BBC kind of talked me out of attempting the drive, even with new tires. That leaves me with two options.
1. I can pick it up when I head north for the summer in six weeks or so.
2. I can pay to have it shipped.
As much as it hurts my money loving cheap soul, I'm probably going to go with option 2. I'm getting bids from shippers right now and I'm seriously not thrilled about spending 9 bills. I don't suppose any of you are heading from the Midwest to Texas with an empty trailer any time soon?

The shipper is having a bit of a hard time finding a driver with an extra 18 feet of space on a truck heading south. I don't know why, the car is at least a foot shorter than my crew cab truck, there should be plenty of room somewhere.

on the GMC, I sort of fell into the drivetrain combo. It was a three-on-the-tree deal with a very low (numerically) first gear which made getting going iffy on a 3.08 rear gear. The rear end was toasted, and incredibly noisy. Not really safe. I happened upon an open 3.73 almost at the same time as my Dad happened upon a MY6 (A833 made for GM, 1-2-3-OD) with a shifter, clutch, everything. It makes the 3.73 combo sweet.

BUT.

I still miss that three-on-the-tree.

I hope this one gets to you. Neat piece of history, there - too bad they don't make shifters like that anymore.

Cutouts and dumps in front of the rear wheels. Just have to teach the kids not to bump them getting in and out.
Not that I've been pricing stroker cranks and good heads and cams and such.

Pro tip: you can find some sweet classics on craigslist by searching the car section for "tree" and clicking the search entire post box

Check is cashed and shipping is paid for, just waiting on an available trailer.

okay thanks I just wasn't clear on that. Who did you end up going with for shipping?

I went with Paragon out of Houston. The guy I dealt with was great both to me and the seller on the other end. The actual guys driving then truck were described as "sketchy" and I don't doubt that they were. I'm not dealing well with having the wagon on a car hauler half way between here and there. Even if the rest of the delivery goes perfectly, flying and driving home is 1000 times better than having a car shipped.
