I'm cross-pollinating this here and at Classic.
Does anybody here have or know where to find some photos of an unrestored 1969 Mustang Grande with the optional side stripes?
I'm working on one now, and we're trying to find some good photos of one with the stripes, preferably close ups of the stripes.
The photos I've found have been stripe-less, restored, or a scan of a brochure photo that looks airbrushed.
Thanks,
Rob

This window sticker calls it a two-tone tape strip

These stripes? These poor photos do not show the two-tone-ness.

I also read here that the stripes are reflective (un-confirmed)

I know that I have an issue of Mustang Monthly from 1982 that has a feature on the Grande. I'll dig it out and see what we can learn.
Well now, all those photos kind of happened whilst I was typing. I'll still go up to the archives and pull out the magazine for old time's sake.
Yep those stripes. Found those pics earlier today. My stripe guy isn't happy with the reproduction stripes we have to work with. That's why we're looking for an original, even if it's faded, etc.
The stripe on that car is similar to what we're working with. Black with a gold inset stripe.

This posting says the green cars stripes are repros done off originals.

It took about 30 seconds to find that magazine. July 1982 issue of Mustang Monthly, the seventh issue of the first magazine that I ever subscribed to, and long before I got my license.
There's just a one page feature on the cover car, which is an unrestored 42,500 mile, one owner car. The only other photo inside is a black and white shot that has less detail.
I'm disappointed...I thought I'd have more for you. I will add, though, that one of the photos above was a Ford press release that I have seen many times. That doesn't mean that it's not an early production car or even a prototype (stripe may have changed), but nobody would fault you for duplicating that one.

That's the best quality I've seen of that factory image. Thanks.
If you look at the photos of the green Cobra Jet car below, you'll see the stripe is lower on the quarter than the factory photo above. That's why I suspect the factory photo was airbrushed. (Old school Photoshop).

I'll see if we can contact the owner. Thanks!

Find out who VMF member "Ragtop" (Ken Souza) is because he made and applied the reproduction stripes along with the help of his son, Doug.
I suspect this is the "RagTop" you need to find:

Contact Bill Fioretti at Mostly Mustangs, he'll have the answer.

Unrestored? It was 13 years old then.

Two more leads from April of this year:
http://forums.vintage-mustang.com/vintage-mustang-forum/642938-1969-grande-stripe-kit.html
The black/gold stripe is C9ZZ-6520000-S.
I PartsVoiced it, and came up with two hits:
Antique Auto Arlington Ford - 817-275-2381
Mustang Etc - 818-787-7634

Yeah, but they could have Earl Sheib'ed it three times for less than $300 bucks back then, too. Most cars of the 60's didn't wear their original paint for very long.

Thanks Woody! Any chance I can talk you into a high-res scan of the magazine cover and article? That unrestored coupe is what I'm looking for. Just 30 years later...

The last 10 visitors to "RagTop's" profile included the owner of the green car, "69cjgrande".
If I can figure out how to work my scanner, I'll do my best. I may have to look for the software. I won't be able to get to it until tomorrow. I'll also take another peek through the archives, as I think I remember a more detailed article a couple of years later.
Once upon a time, I knew a lot of E36 M3 about Mustangs...
Thanks guys. The help is appreciated. This has been much more productive than the on and off Googling today
I'll ask the Mustang's owner where she got the stripes, if she remembers.

No problem Woody, I really appreciate it. I need to call it a night.
When the car is further along I'll have to post some pics here.

And? People were restoring cars that "new". Heck, I remember reading articles about restoring musclecars in the early 80s Car Crafts. (I got a subscription when I was five!)
One of my customers did a frame-off restoration of a 2002 Silverado. Looks really nice now.
