If that's the way you feel, then fine. But speak for yourself, not me please.

Didn't get much done today. The battery on the sawzall died. Did chase down the electric. Ended up being a short in the rear lights. Also got the front trim off, that stuff is worse than I thought. I'll have some pics of the exhaust chunk I did get off latter. The bent up pipes also managed to take out a shock I didn't realize before. Glad I bought extras.

So, higher up in the rear?

Rams horn headers are in it now. Tight fit. Those getting taken out. Hope the new ones fit. May be a slight steering issue.

This sums up the exhaust under my car. It gets worse.

Looks like this is a nice build so far...

But what a contradiction in one single post.

Don't mind me, keep on building...

I was looking for a toy when I got this. The AMX wouldn't be an abused racer.

The rest of my jacked up exhaust is out of the car. Everything was going smooth until I went to put the new headers on and saw they emptied out about 2 inches above the crossmember that happens to be part of the suspension I cant just remove it. So now its back to the craptastic ramshorns that were on it until I can make some customs or find a set that works. Did manage to get the heat shield on the massive starter, biggest starter I've ever seen on a passenger car, and some other heat shielding under hood. Also did a tune up because it was easy and POR 15 a few spots.

Why not buy a cheap pair of AMC headers for it and then change the flanges for an SBC?

Looking at the examples on ebay I'd still run into the same problem. The rams on there exit high and back at an angel. All the others I've seen run into stuff.

That could actually work--the SBC is a wee bit smaller than the AMC--so if the AMC headers work (--and of course they do--) and if you can reflange to a SBC, which shares a similar siamesed design, all should be good.

Engine sits in a different spot than the AMC V8s do. Its not mounted to the crossmember but attached via a plate in front of the engine.

Today I learned the rams horn manifolds use a special swedge design gasket thingy. Another day another set back.

Have you considered porting the ram horns?

Not only thought about it but did some cleaning up of the casting inside the manifold. Not really a port job, just some smoothing. There was some wicked edges in there.

Side pipes!

May get the longer heat shield cover to fill in the space.

Don't wear shorts!

About the starter, have you tried a gear reduction starter off, say a mid nineties chevy truck? Would be much smaller, lighter, and easier to work your exhaust around.

I've heard those ramshorn manifolds are actually non-garbage. And if you've cleaned up the port entrances then I'd probably spend time on some other aspect of the car. But that's just me and maybe I'm incorrect here.

For some reason I think Convo-Pro's would be nice. Limited to 15" though, the 17" version seems way less cool.

I'm not hating the ramshorn and they dump out at the perfect place. Been looking for a new passenger side because at one point it was broken and welded back together. When I brought them to the guy who made my flanges he told me they were rare I ask ed what they were worth and he said nothing they are just rare.

Once the started finally dies for good I'll get a new starter from Summit . Anything is small than whats in there.

When I took the spark plugs out to avoid breaking them some were in there just short of finger tight. Not that I expected much from what is clearly an old junkyard motor that was thrown in there.

I had a 327 a long time ago with those factory ram horn manifolds.

Some circle track racers are required to use those manifolds. I believe there are sources out there for these still as new items.
