I dated a girl with one of these back in the '80's. It was blue and had a lovely vinyl top! What I remember most about it was when you opened the door, it dropped about two inches. And you had to lift the door to shut it. It had some sort of V6, but it was slow as dirt, and drove even worse. Every dad in the world seemed to buy one of these or its cousin, the Vega, for his daughter back then. It looked sporty, but wasn't fast enough to get you into trouble.
Its too bad GM never spent the time or money to engineer a good car out of these, they actually look good.

VERY peculiar for that car to be preserved to that degree. It's almost too nice to mod. Lowering it on bigger wheels and wide rubber would really wake it up, though.

The last two I came across were nice on the outside, but crappy floors; one had fiberglass patch panels . . .
Both were 305 4speed cars . . .
I call Photoshop.... they left the factory with more rust than what's in the photo.
Have little experience with them...nor do I want it.
Had a gold one in mid 80's with a 151 4cyl and a 4 speed after the 3rd head gasket I dropped in a 350 with a 350auto wow was it fun car.
I would love to have one that clean. My first car was a 78 Pontiac Sunbird. Hatch version that started as a vinyl interior automatic. Bought a 76 Buick Skyhawk 4 speed and converted the Sunbird to a stick. Went through a clutch and a couple shift arms learning to powershift. Back to an auto for a time until I saved enough for a new clutch and resurfaced flywheel then back to a stick. That car saw 16 seconds 1/4 mile times and barked third gear with a 2.73 rearend ratio and half a Q jet 2bbl with a Buick V6. Learned a lot in it. Plenty of air time over single RR tracks in the country resulted in a rear upper shock mount that pulled through and 100's of forward and reverse 180 degree spins. A lot of memories in one car. I ended up buying a rusty 75 V8 coupe later which had scary small solid front rotors for a car with as much power. Fun little cars.
Wow, that is a pretty little Monza. I always thought it would be fun to get one of these with the 105hp Buick 231 V6 and swap in the 200hp 3800 V6 from a '96-'02 F-body.
I got in a friendly debate with a buddy who is a GM tech and swore the Iron Duke always had a cross-flow head and TBI. I say the Duke in the Monza/Sunbird had a carb and a non-crossflow head. Who's right?

why get a 3.8 car to swap in a later F body 3800? the engine is totally different- bellhousing pattern and everything- so just take whatever solid H body you can get your hands on and do the swap in that? besides, i think only the Buick Skyhaywks got the Buick V6.. the Monzas had the Chevy 200 and 229 V6 engines in them..
the 2.5 had a carb until the mid 80's some time.. good little runners, but not fast..
the car in the OP looks identical to the Monza that my cousin put a 350 in.. it was just a stock 350 and TH530 out of a 78 or 79 Z/28, but that was a fun little car.. he junked the body, but i've still got the oil pan somewhere..
The V6 ones ran really well, provided they had a manual trans behind them. One of my classmates got a Monza Spyder brand new from the local dealer. Drove it for YEARS and never had any trouble with it. He was pretty anal about keeping it nice, so never had rust while I knew him.
I had a '77 Spyder with what was supposed to have been a 305. We always felt in ran too well to be a 305 but who knows. In any case, it was more than a 16 year old could handle. I wadded it up one afternoon trying to catch a CB-750 up a curvy 3-lane mountain road.
In high school, my girlfriend had a hatchback Monza. I got laid many... err... learned to drive manual transmission in it.
My mini currently sports Monza Spyder wheels.

Because I (erroneously?) thought the RWD 3800 in the F-body was a bolt-in swap for any 70's/80's GM car that had the Buick 231. Thanks for setting me straight.
