Bias ply tires and square bodied cars. Love watching these cars back then. Just as good now and I think way better than modern NASCAR.
For those that don't remember or to young to remember this era of nascar give it a watch and you may understand.
Man I miss those "stock" bodied cars. You could tell the difference between a Ford and a Chevy back then.
iRacing just announced they are bringing the 80s Monte Carlo and T-Bird to their service soon. That should be interesting.

I really liked the biased ply tires. The cars moved around a bunch more. You also could slide a car much more. Just overall much more exciting to watch.

No aero, bias ply tires and softer suspensions will make almost any racing more interesting to watch. How fast a car class goes around a track has little to do with how fun it is to watch.
If NASCAR was smart, they would do a Retro series as a tribute and see how it plays. I suspect it would be a hit. Of course, you would need to do mostly (or all) road courses since I am not sure there would be a lot of change to an oval (other than the lap times).
