Background: Car was stored for about 2 years and the owner was going out and firing it up monthly to keep the blood flowing.
Then one day it wouldn't crank so he let it sit for over a year.
I bought it.

After installing a new battery, one of the relays on the DRIVERS side near the master cylinder will "click" when I hit the starter from inside the car.
This baby won't crank and I'm having trouble figuring out what I'm missing.

What I've done:

New Battery
Tested to make sure I have power at the main starter (I do)
I DO NOT have power at the starter switch when I hit the starter with the ignition key - this is where I'm at right now and I can't figure out why I don't get power at that wire (Ignition wire that plugs into the starter)

I've ruled out the starter because I can indeed put 12 volts on the starter's switch and crank & fire the car up. Hey, it runs! It will stay running on it's own too. Is it possible that the starter is still the problem?
I've checked the 80 amp fuse (it's good)
I took the dash panel off and cleaned up the ignition switch contacts after taking it all apart like the Miata folks online said to do... still won't crank with the key. Just getting that "click" from the drivers side.

I also bypassed the clutch pedal switch to get that out of the equation.
Thoughts on what I'm missing?

Are you double-triple-quadruple sure that the clutch switch bypass is doing its job?

If I remember correctly the solenoid is integral with the starter. I had my solenoid go out; but the starter still turned when I hooked it directly to the battery. I added a stand alone solenoid from a junkyard When the integrated one cut out. It worked. It worked so good that I left it that way.
