So what roll bar would you guys recommend? I am assuming Hard Dog stuff is preferred but which is the best/safest? I have a glass rear window which may become a problem...

In reply to djhives:

There's a good deabte on Miata.net about real safety and roll bars. I'm sure you have some interesting input.

Just ignore that one... there's some unrest amongst the masses right now that i imagine should be cleared up by tomorrow. (It's not always like this, i promise.)

Yea, there's honestly no mocking being directed toward you.

You'll have a lot of fun with that car.

Joshua, you've come in at an... interesting... time in GRM forumland. I think PMing folks who know real information may be a better source for you at the moment. The folks around here are rated as to their submission quantity (not quality, but it usually follows). This shows next to their screen name. If someone's says "new reader" - ignore them unless they have a compelling resume. Anything about "dork" usually means you're talking to either knows what he is talking about or will admit it when he doesn't. Alfa and Celica here are very knowledgeable folk, Keith is very helpful as well. If you peruse the project car section of the page, you'll see that GRM themselves have done a great couple of Miatas in the mag and on the site. If you see issues that interest you, I have a bunch and can photocopy some stuff, but they have a way to order back issues. GRM is the place to be, as their is rarely idiocy here, and nearly everyone gets along. As I said before, this was a bad day to ask about Miatas due to some odd influences. PM some guys and wait a few days and try again. I apologize on behalf of the collective intelligence here.

Djhives, you are honestly not very validly backing up your arguments in this or any of the other threads.

Instead of backing up your arguments with verifiable facts you are utilizing opinion generated views to get your point across. IE, just because someone may be a sponsor, does not mean that the information that they give out is necessarily skewed. Originality, furthermore, does not beget merit on its own basis, if something has always been done a specific way there might be something to that way of doing things.

"E-status" has very little to do with the respect that one will receive, providing logical and factually based arguments in a clear manner has much more to do with it. Your arguments have lacked coherence and factual backup, furthermore you, instead of conducting a meaningful discourse, have resulted to insulting and berating others who have a history of providing meaningful input.

I have sought to avoid becoming personal with this and have attempted to focus on providing an honest viewpoint as someone who would much rather see Miata topics not become lost in petty argument as is happening.

I appeal to you to tone it down so that a good exchange of information can take place.

Yep, sure is. I'm not real worried about it, though.

For what it's worth, i wouldn't be asking me about Miata-specific stuff just for the record. I'm more versed with their motors than the cars themselves.

I have been a member here for a while now, at least longer than djhives has, I switched my screenname yesterday.

Any other input on the rollbars? Should I switch to a non-glass rear window?

Darn screen-name-switching-fools! I can't keep track of anyone! Who were you yesterday?

See? Just like I said, willing to admit it when they don't... Good egg, this guy.

Fixed.

I'd like to apologize to the OP if the above in any way contributed to the confusion and noise of this thread. I am in the dark about the Miata.net comments -- and was only suggesting that there is a strong base of Miata knowledge on this site -- and that the people here are generally cool and helpful. Seems like there's a backstory that not everyone is privvy to -- even us "Superdorks".

You got a glass rear window? Nice feature- for a lot of people. I find it hard to figure out where it would go if you had a roll bar, but worth a try. If not- even if you try to sell it on the challenge want board- someone will want that.

I don't know much about rollbars, not using one myself.

I've been jacking up my car on the seam under the mirror for a couple of years. I use a hockey puck with a groove cut into it to support the seam, no damage, cheap ($1) and easy to change tires with the whole side of the car in the air. I only have experience with Hard Dog roll bars. I can't tell you how well they work because I haven't tested them, and have no plans to do so in the immediate future They look like a good piece, though

I am in the same, if not worse boat with the rear window.

I have a Robbins top installed on mine and want to find a bar that will work for HPDE/PDX and also have a hardtop. The Robbins window is a bit wider then most as far as I have read.

Basically my plan is to call Bethania Garage (guys who make harddog products) and talk to them directly as they can easily set you up with a double diagional with the downtubes kicked out a bit to clear the bigger window. (gathered information from a few sources and this seems the best plan)

One good reason to switch to 15s for summer/track use is there is a MUCH wider selection of high performance tires available in 15" than 14". The RT-615K and Star Specs are good, but 15" brings in a lot of other contenders. I'm loving the RE11s we picked up last fall (and stored for winter, of course). Makes the old Azenis feel like my all-season Fuzions in comparison.

Track prep - a real roll bar is a must. Beyond that, good brake pads, but I'd suggest stock rotors and consider them a wear item like the pads. Fresh high temp brake fluid, and make sure the rest of the car is up to snuff. You're good to go. But do check the rules and regs of your local organizations to see what they require of convertibles to be able to run. A few ban them entirely, no matter what level of prep. Others let you run with no more than a hardtop, but I don't think I'd want to.
