restored vintage power tools and beer?
I haven't posted any updates recently sadly. I had ran into a few issues and am happy to report they are resolved. I need to get new tires, but may swap to 16" or 17" in the springs. Anyway, when I assembled the fresh engine, I used a cheap timing belt that my brother gave me with a nearly complete rebuild kit from the '89 Probe GT I also have reacquired recently. After assembly the engine had oil leaks from both sides of head. I believe the no name belt let go either from oil or brake cleaner splashing on it. The #4 sparkplug hole had an insert and it developed a crack be the plugs hole, to the insert. Reassembled and it runs very well. I believe the T3/T04E .57 Trim .60coldside.63Hotside is a little oversized. The 260 reground cam shifts the power band about 1k higher, so now the Turbo hits 12-psi (via a MBC) at 4,000rpm. If I swap to a smaller straight T3 it should respond and have a much broader power band. Other than a respray over the coming winter I'm really happy with the way the car is progressing. A professional tune will come soon.
I believe I'm gonna go back to the Iridescent Green/Blue/Purple. I have 2 Gallon of it, as well as 2 Gallon of Red/Purple/Blue as well that I got super cheap for the KLZE car I had, but reluctantly sold to fund an MR2 Turbo. I apparently didn't put enough of the intermediate (color) over the black, so it should look much better and vivid once repainted. This is the puc that sold me on going away from Ultra Bright White with Cosmic Blue Pearl. Can't wait to see it redone!
Good to hear about the cam. My feeling after driving my stock f2t car for a while was that that was something it could really benefit from.
Well my Dyno day got delayed a few days, but February 5th we got there after snowmageddon. Initial output was 209whp/217trq at 11psi. My tuner is a hardcore Honda guy, not very familiar with Megasquirt but very familiar with tuning on Neptune/AEM/Haltech so no problem tuning my MegaSquirt DIYPnP. He redid my Timing Map & VE Table, and we did a few couple pulls on the Dyno. We discovered the spark was blowing out up top so we swapped plugs to BKR7E's gapped down and bam, no more blowout. Turning the boost up to 17psi netted 232whp/223wtrq. Knowing something wasn't right I discovered a leaking intake manifold gasket so we stopped at that. I have fixed that leak and it runs much better! Hoping to take her back again to give it another go. But I' . Betting its over 300whp now. Once my photo bucket account is back up, I'll upload pics/video.
WOW!!! thats a really impressive bump coming from the tune. Are you getting to the point that the clutch is going to begin to be a weak link?
