Noise is a loud "pop" when depressing clutch. Typically occurs about 1 inch of travel after the free play is taken up.

- It is not the clutch return stop button.

- The noise is in or under the engine compartment, not the interior.

- I have adjusted the clutch plunger from way too loose to tight. Noise happens either way.

- Transmission and clutch perform like new - just a slight increase in travel resistance and then released at the "pop".

- Both clutch cylinders replaced last year - fluid has remained full.

- It's not the clutch pedal mounting bracket.

What's binding?

My Google-Fu fails me. Help me, oh great hive.

Can you have someone else press the clutch while you touch various parts under the hood the see where the noise originates?

Does it happen with the engine on, off, both?

Firewall crack, like the metal is making noise popping against itself?  I have a pop too but it is something in the pedal area. I haven't really dug it though since I think it is the switch or stopper popping.

Makes no difference if engine is running or not, nor in gear. It's a metallic "pop" sound., like tension is being released. It's been making this noise for about two months. It's slowly become louder - to the point it's annoying.

I'm going under it this afternoon and see if I can localize the source.
