I got my hands on a 1999 Kia Sephia from a friend who has no need for it and decided to let me sell it for him. The car had been parked for 1 year when I picked it up from his house and after jump starting the battery, I drove it home. I got a check engine light on the drive home which turned out to be a transmission sensor, according to the scanner. I topped off the transmission fluid and test drove it for about 2 miles when suddenly the transmission gave up. It wont go forward or backwards in any of the gears. I tried R D D1 D2 and nothing. Whats worse about the situation is that this model Sephia was the first model that stopped carrying the Mazda BP engine that's commonly found in the Miata. The engine is an all Kia design and considering this brands build quality reputation, would anyone consider turning this car into some kind of project?

hell no i'd sell it for whatever i could get on craigslist - probably be scrap value.

multiple cousins had 99 kia sephias and they were such troublesome little boxes of e36 m3 that i would not wish one upon anybody but my worst foes.

I haven't had any problems with my '01 Sephia, but it has the 5 speed and other than the fact that it can't get out of its own way it is a great car.

I am, however, looking at the new Forte Koup. Has the SCCA decided which class it is going to fall into?

The Kia Forte is a cool car. My cousin just bought one during the cash for clunkers program and it looks awesome. The 99 Sephia in my possession can not be compared to the newer Kia's. The older Kias suck and the newer ones are good looking cars.
