Hi everyone- I had a friend contact me about his 2000 BMW 540i sport automatic. He is the original owner of the car and it has 115k. The car is exceptionally clean in and out. He has ordered a new BMW and offered me first crack at the car. He is well off and has not skimped on anything maintaining the car. It has been maintained exclusively by a local BMW indie shop.

I took the car for a ride today and was pleased. It felt very solid/sturdy in a similar way to my W124. I also found out that the dealer offered him $2500 for the car. I could probably get the car for $3000. I need to contact his shop and see if I can get my hands on the service records for the car.

Would you guys buy the car and drive the hell out of it or flip it? I am very knowledgeable in the W201 and W124 mercedes, but know little of these V8 BMWs.

Thanks for your 2 cents.

Knowing the history and at that price, I'd buy it quick and drive it until I got sick of it or the price of repairs got tiresome.

It is worth it for that price but the tranny will need a fluid change yesterday; that is a BMW 'lifetime fill' vehicle, if you change it now you can probably keep the trans happy for much longer than the average owner. Otherwise, go for it!

His new car is on order and not coming in for at least a month. I am thinking it would be real helpful to visit the indie shop and try to get a copy of the service records to have a real handle on what has been done to the car.
