I like the VS idea so here is mine. The 3 way shootout:
I would like on of each in this order:
- Alfa 2.0
- 2002tii
- 510

How about... i get full custody of the nickeldime, you get full custody of the alfa, and we'll share the 2002tii 50/50?
Add in an E7 'rolla and you can have the Bimmer, too.
I expected the Alfa to be the hands-down winner here. I guess this is why we ask the difficult, poignant questions we do.
GTV with a twinspark, please.
At the same time, I long for a 'JDM' styled 510.
But then, make the '02 a Touring model with Alpina goodies, and it becomes a tough choice.
I would like them in this order.
Alfa
2002 (in touring trim only)
510
There is nothing wrong with the dime.. I just have a strong aversion to fanbois
The GTV is on the short list of cars I absolutely WILL own at some point.
the other two... they're icons and all but don't do it for me.
I love the Alfa, and in an ideal world it would probably be my first choice; however, from my perspective, it has ascended to the ranks of the anointed vintage cars, so it is practically unobtainable.
The 510 is cool, but I haven't seen one in the flesh (except on a race track) for more than five years. They just don't seem to exist here in the wilds of the midwest. I know there are cars on ebay occasionally, but I'm not willing to go there...
That leaves the BMW. I see restored cars and interesting projects on Craigslist regularly.

2002, GTV, 510
I had a long bit of soul-searching when I got my 2002. There were people in local autocross doing a lot with both 2002s and 510s.
The 510 seemed to have a little more room to work under the hood, and there were a lot of junkyard hop-ups.
But when I drove each, the 2002 just seemed a lot more polished. I also thought that the 2002 was significantly prettier, and that by comparison the 510's exhaust note was tractorlike.
It was still a tough decision. Also, I dig that there are 4-door 510s...
The Alfa I have no experience with, but I think they're pretty.
My first car was a 510, in 1976. Loved it then and would love to have another. I fell in love with the Alfa at a Trans-Am race in 1970 at Mont Tremblant, so I want one of those, too, but I've never driven one. The BMW would be neat, but it's third on my list.
Well, the 510 (once Mr. Yates got done with em) mopped the floor with the others in the trans am series back when, but that Alfa is...all biz....
Alfa Alfa Alfa. I love the looks of that car. Well, not the example given above. Those fenders lose the crispness of the original lines and make the car look like a bad kit car. Here what they are supposed to look like.
I've owned an Alfa (30 years ago....)... I've owned better cars. I've wrenched on a number of 2002, not a bad little car, in fact if the Japanese built it it would be better.... Oh yes, the Japanses did build one... the 510
510 with a SR20DE (yeah... no T) swap, add the rear suspension geometery repair kit, the 280ZX brakes, and you have one very mean little carver.....
Ah, the old small Trans-Am rivalry lives on. I had a 2002 back in the day, loved it, supported the BRE 510s (which were excellent BMW copies) in the races (big John Morton/ Peter Brock fan), so back then the Alfas were the Dreaded Enemy.
But today, no question, I'd take the GTV in a heartbeat.
