Good morning all. We recently sold our Protege to a friend with 100k miles. She just emailed me: the speedometer stopped working, and rather than bother me, she took it to her mechanic who diagnosed it as a VSS. Here is here info:
"I brought my car in on Thursday because the speedometer had stopped working. They got the part (speed sensor) in by Friday, but on Friday they told me they were having trouble getting the speed sensor out - that it was coming out in pieces (?). Today they called me and said that it turns out the problem is with one of the gears not working properly and that is why the speedometer isn't working. So they said they need to pull the transmission out and work on that, so that the speedo starts working again. (I hope I've rehashed that correctly). It all just sounds a bit odd to me, so I guess I will just feel better about it if I heard from you that it makes perfect sense and that's just the way it goes sometimes. "
What do you think? Does it make sense?
Thanks!!
