My friend's car is having some starting issues and I'm not sure what the deal is. She said it just clicks and trying to jump it does nothing. She push started it last time it happened and that worked fine. I've seen some stuff online about those cars having issues starting when its cold out but we live in southern California, it doesn't get cold here. Any ideas?

Sounds like the starter motor to me - maybe a sticky solenoid or something? But, are you inferring that push-starting didn't work this time?
I'm not sure if she tried it again. Disclaimer: I talked with her about it over facebook, I've yet to look at the car in person. I'm just hoping someone will have something specific for me to look at instead if checking lots of things.
where did she jump it from, under the hood, or at the battery?
At the battery I believe. Kudos to Saturn for putting it in the trunk.
+1 to her for driving a stick and knowing how to push start. I agree w/ dead battery theroy.
it takes a lot of battery to start them for some reason. I remember brand new ones needing jump started from sitting around. Jump it from the post under the hood.
Battery cable connections are often the problem.
Problem is either lack of sufficient current or a bad starter or solenoid.
Cool, thanks guys. I'll bring a hammer when I go look at it and see if I can persuade the starter to work.

A hammer on a magnetic planetary starter is akin to a hammer on Wedgwood china.
Add better voltage.

That's why I come here. Thanks from saving me from an expensive mistake.
