Anyone know anything about a 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA CE? It's a manual with 97,275 miles. Dealer has it listed for $6,994. Anything to look for? Is that a fair price? I'm sure they can be talked down some.

It's a FWD Corolla, it will likely last quite a while and be utterly boring to drive. Seems like something that might be okay to drive while the track rat is broken or being "upgraded"
Pretty much what he said. My girlfriend has one, it is a solid car, it has good enough pickup, and it puts me to sleep when I drive it. It would be better with the stick. If you're looking for a reliable daily driver, it wouldn't be bad. No idea about what it is worth, but that seems like a decent price, maybe a little on the high side.
Personally, I woudn't touch any FWD Corolla that didn't come stock with GT-S or XRS badging. For a new one, I'd look for one of the 1.8L XRSs, same motor as the MR-S (2ZZ-FE), and upgraded suspension and brakes over the S and CE models. FWIW, the S is just the CE with the XRS bodykit.
I'm not a fan of Toyota's choice to replace the 2ZZ in the new XRSs with the 2.4L tC motor, though.

Sorry to be so OCD, but that motor would be the 2ZZGE, also found in the Lotus Elise, Celica GT-S, Matrix XRS.
The motor in the regular Corolla would be the 1ZZFE. This is found in the MR2 Spyder and Celica GT. The MR2 Spyder never got the 2ZZ from the factory, unfortunately.
I was fairly impressed with an S I drove circa '03. Recently I bought an '03 Civic EX coupe, thinking I'd like it better overall for a fun-ish daily beater. I hated it within a week, and wish I had looked for a used Corolla instead.
Yes, the Corolla will be fairly boring, but unless you want to drive 8/10ths or above all the time, I think you wouldn't mind it everyday. Get some wider tires and big swaybars, rock it for 900k miles.
I'm shopping for a new car but am all over the place with what I want. The Corolla would be my daily driver on days I have to cart my daughter around. I'm thinking about a CPO S2000 for the fun car but that isn't kid friendly.
