2008 Corolla low beams are DIM....

The car has replacement headlamp assemblies. High beams are BRIGHT. Low beams are barely useful.

I kinda remember a hack to put brighter bulbs in the low beam sockets.  Several forums talk about HID bulbs.

Has anyone else had this problem? How did you fix it?

My wife's 03 RX (older than your Corolla) has very similar issue. Instead of doing the hack where you can run a higher wattage bulb, I installed a DDM hid kit for the low beams. Problems solved for us . 

simple thought , did you check the grounds ?

or run a thicker ground wire ?

Also, a lot of times aftermarket headlights come with stupendously cheap and E36 M3ty bulbs. Step one should be highwr wattage hella bulbs. And a good headlight alignment. 

I posted this in the other recent headlight thread, it looks like your Corolla uses 9006 bulbs for the low beams. You can replace them with a 9012 bulb with a modification to one of the tabs on the bulbs to make it fit. These are the same wattage as original so no worries with wiring or heat but a much more efficient design, that means a lot more light output. I did this with my high beams on my car and the difference was worthwhile and easy to do.

Try OEM headlights.  Aftermarket headlights usually have atrociously bad patterns.  Adding brightness won't make it better.

I have the same issue with my 03 Corolla (same generation). I'm definitely going to try the 9012 bulb retrofit. 

First, check the grounds.
