It’s a new year and a new event coming this fall. I’ve started this thread to discuss projects underway for the $2012 Challenge. At Also Ran Racing our project is progressing nicely. We will use this forum to roll up the garage door and share our project. Come on in and tell us what you have cooking for $2012!

maybe this is the year the mg makes its appearance
I'll let the younger group of Aggies fill you in on what they're building for the '12 Challenge (in addition to the VG30 Miata) but rest assured, it's pretty awesome. I'm not involved with the build itself, but I'm lending some design help.
“Take simplicity and add lightness.”
That is the credo of Lotus. We have decide to add, “Take lightness and add cheapness.” For the first time, Lotus will be represented at the Challenge. We have always been fans of Lotus and wanted to do something different for the $2012 Challenge. As with most Challenge projects, a purchase of opportunity presented itself and we were off on a building adventure.
Sage advice for those considering British cars of the 70’s was: “Never buy a British car heavier than you can push out of an intersection by yourself.”
We hope to have one of the lightest curb weight cars ever to run the event. Nimbleness and power to weight ratio shouldn’t be a problem. All the same, we have decided give it excess horsepower just to make sure. There will be a few organ transplants from different species as well as some cosmetic surgery. You can follow our build at: www.alsoranracing.com The first installment is posted now!

oldtin, I see your MG and raise you a Fiat:
(if it hasn't rusted to pieces 11 months...)

I'm hoping that the F2T powered MX-3 will be there, I'm currently redoing the topend, and shortly intend to start the paint shortly.
You are cordially invited to join Team MX6 Mafia. Please note that the only requirement is that you are running one of the most ridiculous piston motors to come out of Japan in the 80s. The F2T.

We're starting to collect a few of them motors, aren't we?
Ima try to get my buddy that bought that black one locally to come down, too.
i'm probably just being dumb, but where are the rules/info for the 2012 challenge? If I can get my stuff together I'd love to be able to give it a shot.

if we're allowed back this will be totally redone. I have already taken out about 100 pounds, - re-doing it all.
Anyone happen to have a spare charcoal canisterand vacuum canister??? My vacuum canister broke the bottom nipple off, and the charcoal can is missing a nipple too. I think I've found the reason my engines running pig rich is due to the vacuum lines (4 of them)... we need some MX-6 Mafia Stickers ;-)

Running on 3 cylinders this car was a contender in the
autocross. With full power and 100lbs lighter, look out!

You don't need the charcoal can i don't think... just remove it.
Vacuum canister, i don't have one, get a WTB up on MX6.com!
I'll see what i can do about stickers.

Good question. I would like to see them, too. At least give us the date...will it be the first weekend in Oct or the last one in Sept? Are there any new "don't be a shiney happy person" clauses?
Hoping to get the datsun replica finished in time....

That would be impressive. You guys did an amazing job. George B. told me that it was "the most tossable car I've ever driven"

If you look at the schedule for Gainesville Raceway, they've got Sept. 28th & 29th down as the $2012 Grassroots Motorsports Challenge on their 2012 dragstrip schedule
I saw the date on the Drag Strip site too. Get to work guys, there is 1 week less to get things done this year.
We plan to bring back our TR8 since we had zero time for sorting last year because of an emergency re-paint. Here is a photo from 1-15-12 at a PCA autocross. We were testing the tensile strength of Zip tying 2 sway bars together.... It held. Who'd a thunk. The car put down a top 5 time (besting a couple of GT3RSs) so we were pretty happy.
