So I'm liking the way the up and coming Mazda 6 looks. I was reading some reports of what's to come and it said something about a possible 2-door variant. I think that it would look awesome in a two door guise.
However, going through the images I saw something that made me hopeful:
Yes that is a manual trans. Unfortunately these pics are for the Russian Market and I could only hope that Mazda allows the 6 here in the US to have a manual.
Anyways, here's some other pics, seeing that they were just released:
car looks good, though I wouldn't hold your breath on the MT option here. But then again, Mazda isn't exactly lame Nissan who put CVT in their "4-door sportscar" so maybe they will...
Word is that Mazda is sticking with a 6-speed auto. I would be hopeful for a future DCT, but it sounds like its a shiftless automatic for now.
Looks like a Jag XF, and that's a good thing. If they bring the Sky-D + manual trans to the US, wifey will buy it. Even sooner if it's the wagon!
In reply to Javelin:
The wagon looks awesome. The only problem is that they aren't going to sell them in the US.
Go figure
The wagon version looks killer. I always liked the early ones but then lost interest with the redesign
That trans looks a lot like the 6speed that was in my ms3, shift "feel" weight and all.
Diesel is coming to the states next year but which chassis is unknown, however the new 6 and CX5 share the same platform...
And yes the wagon would be killer if we got them in the states :(
wonder what it would cost to import the trans from the ruskies?
Either way, I kinda dont care because I think the 6 is the new 2nd gen Taurus...the car that says "I give up, and will drive vanilla beige now"
In reply to 4cylndrfury:
I don't think it is. The 2nd gen Mazda 6 looked like they gave up styling wise, but I'm liking this new design with the new Corporate grille.
Of course though, to stay competitive I imagine there will be a Hybrid and they're talking AWD for this next generation.
I think however, they should give the wagon a chance, yes it's not going to sell here like it does overseas, but I think it will sell in small numbers.
I think it's a great looking car.
I'll probably still have my '05 Mazda6 three years from now when these are coming off lease.
I'm guessing that Mazda's research shows that when the average car-buying American is presented with a wagon and a crossover, they close-enough-to-always buy the crossover so it's not worth even offering the option of a wagon.

And you've distilled what is wrong with Americans in one succinct paragraph!
The new 6 looks better than all the other god-awful abominations Mazda has done recently, mostly with that Chesire-cat-smile grille. But it still ain't pretty.

or sedan, and then bitch because the seats don't fold down....
i looked at 6 wagons back when they were about to can them at the end of 06. even more rare, i was looking for manual trans models. there were three in austin at the time, two were new on the lot, and one was an 06 'program car' with not many miles on it. the two "new" ones had been on the lot over 400 days, and they were willing to deal. sticker was over 30 on them, and right away they said they'd drop the price to 20. i ended up (probably much happier) with an 04 rsx-s.
Honestly, I would be surprised if Mazda didn't offer the new 6 with a manual. The only vehicles in the fleet that are auto-only are the CX-7 and 9.
aaaaaand the official photos for the new wagon have been "leaked"

Dear Mazda Claus. I've been REALLY good this year. I haven't gotten a speeding ticket, or anything. Please make this available in a manual with the diesel in the US.

TTAC has a little fun: http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2012/09/mazda6-skyactiv-d-wagon-to-outsell-ford-f-150-in-united-states/
Mazda has released official pictures of what will likely be the best-selling car in the United States, should it ever be sold here; the 2014 Mazda6 Wagon, which will be available with the new Skyactiv-D engine and a manual transmission.
Seriously, a diesel wagon with a manual that looks this good? It's at the top of every internet auto enthusiast's wish list. And if they offered it here, they'd probably sell about four of them. Which is why they won't.

If it comes with a diesel, it will be my next car, even with an auto. If not, it will be between this and the new Fusion.
In reply to Tom_Spangler:
Its terrible I know...
I get bored and even on the past gen mazda6 I will go on mazda.uk and build me a diesel wagon 6 speed manual. It may cost alot but it would be the last car I buy for the next 15 years....

Here's what galls me about that. The cars are similar enough in the front clips that making htem LHD for the US market is NOT a whole lot of work at the factory. Couple that with the fact that none of them are being built in Flat Rock anymore- that means all the same parts are at the same factory. Crash test a couple and give me the option to order one, dammit. Logistics be damned.

A 335D used is high on my list of cars for the future now that they have a couple years of depreciation but I would be all over this
