Engine isn't as smooth as it was brand new. Have about 59k miles on it right now, with oil change 4k miles ago. Went down a full quart, usually lose 1/2 a quart over a full 5k miles. First rough noise you hear is triggered on throttle at 2000-3000 RPM. Second rough noise is triggered from 3000-4000 RPM.
Taking it to the dealer Saturday to figure it out unless someone here can figure it out. Between the noise and poor fuel economy (averaging 20 in the city), I'm suspecting spark knock as a partial cause.
Hey,
Is the motor throwing any codes?
Are you running the recommended octane gas?

Absolutely no codes. Only time I ever got one was at like 25k miles for a faulty gas cap and that was it. Engine always has had full synthetic 0w20 changed every 5000 miles.
87 is recommended, but I perused through the owner's manual a while back and saw premium was recommended. Went to the dealer for service and mentioned it to them - they stated 87 was recommended, and that it was not possible for spark knock to be occuring. Pretty sure they decided to just brush off my concerns. The few times I ran premium, I didn't really feel the symptoms were getting cured (have occasionally run Techron every 5-6 fill-ups as a precaution).
My first thought was timing chain issues.
Is this the one that ingests particles from the catalytic converter right off the exhaust manifold?

Naw, that was the 2.5 that was in the Altima and SER Sentra.

Mine too. Or that it needs a valve adjustment (fun fact, this junk motor doesn't have hydraulic lifters)
