Do the $2016 challenge rules allow me to cut off the window frame of my miata and go windshieldless? Thanks

I do not know the answer but the rules governing this will be NHRA.
These are the drag racing rules that the track will enforce.
I know the cars usually have to wear a sponsors banner on the windshield and I would make a place for that somewhere else on the front of the car. I am also planning to build a rollbar for safety.
the rules said: These safety items are budget-exempt: seat belt or harness; fire extinguisher; roll bar padding; wheel lugs, studs and bolts; and your first four tires. Brake friction materials, lines, calipers, master cylinders, rotors and drums may be replaced with fresh ones that are functional duplicates. The purpose of this rule is to allow for fresh brake components, not to allow for budget shenanigans. For example, original brake parts cannot be sold and then rebought to take advantage of this allowance. Brake fluid is also budget-exempt.
looks like window nets are not exempt. they're only like $12 though.
also NHRA rules for no windshield:
7:7 WINDSCREEN On open-bodied cars, or any other class car without a windshield, a metal or other fireproof deflector must be installed. Minimum size on Street Roadster and Altered class cars is 5 inches x 12 inches. The deflector should divert wind, liquids, and foreign matter over the driver’s head, be securely mounted, and installed in such a manner that it does not obstruct the driver’s frontal view in any way
The Challenge rules don't require ANY body panels at all.
In reply to patgizz: Those dimensions are for Street Roadster and Altered Class. We run Sportsman Class.
Sportsman says a windscreen is required, but does not specify a size. I'd say a 4" tall piece of Lexan would qualify.
It would be pretty hard to rule it out according to the SCCA, considering what shows up in EMod and AMod.
I'd like to tag along and ask what constitutes a windshield if you have one? Is 1/4 lexan ok? I just talked to a shop today and custom cut laminated glass will set me back $230.

Is it a flat piece of glass or curved. If curved, that's probably reasonable. If flat, that's ridiculous. I've had 3 pieces of glass for the bus custom cut to a template and safety tempered for less than $70.
Can and should are two different things. NHRA sportsman rules would apply here (don't have my book with me....don't think you can though) but I go back to if you should. If the car beating your Miata spits a part of some sort on the drag strip and the first thing it encounters is your face/head, you'll wish you had a windshield.
7:8 WINDSHIELD,WINDOWS Windshields and/or windows on all cars, when called for under Class Requirements, must be of safety glass, Plexiglas, Lexan, or other shatterproof material, minimum 1/8-inch thick. Windshields may not be attached with self-locking fastener buttons. In all Mello Yello Drag Racing Series and Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series vehicles, windshields and/or windows must be clear, without tinting or coloring, except factory-tinted safety glass. In all other applications, windshield/window tint must meet the applicable state requirements. Windshield/window must be in good condition and free from cracks. Competition number decals are permitted on any window, windshield or backlite, except as noted in Class Requirements. Tape of any kind prohibited on any windshield or window. The use of any temporary or permanent shielding, including paint, that obstructs the driver’s vision (e.g., blinders, staging aids) and that is attached to the helmet, window or windshield is prohibited. Permitted shielding not to exceed 4 inches by 8 inches is permitted at this time provided that (a) it has a permanent attachment to the vehicle, such that it requires tools for removal, and (b) that the shielding is deemed safe by the driver in the driver’s judgment and so long as the driver can demonstrate to technical inspectors that the purpose of the modification is to reduce distraction in the driver’s field of vision. By using such a shield, the driver acknowledges and agrees that the driver deems such modification safe in the driver’s judgment consistent with the driver’s obligations in Section 1, Participant Agreements and Administrative and Procedural Rules, set forth above, and that the shield does not impair or interfere with the safe operation of the driver’s vehicle. Tape, tie straps, binder clips, hook-and-loop fasteners, glue, etc. are prohibited for attachment purposes.Vehicle-mounted shielding is allowed to pivot as long as it remains permanently attached. See General Regulations 10:7.

Was that tempered or laminated? Tempered I can get cheaper but I wouldn't want it as my windshield. Side or back it's fine.
I was planning to replace the miata windshield with a driverside rollbar and screen from a motorcycle. And I would never do this without wearing a fullface helmet.
kinda like this in this picture:
