I like a minimum bed size and the ability to haul a common sized object.

I would love to see a "Team Loophole" build. I think it would be an interesting exercise that would ultimately prove educational both for us as rules makers and for other competitors as potential exploiters.
If it wins by a huge margin, the competitor is given a choice: Take the win and the rulebook grows exponentially thicker, or drop out and switch to exhibition and call it a cautionary tale. First you have to win, though :)

I don't think I can come up with enough loopholes to make up the talent gap between me and the Nelsons.
I think I'm going to make a Ute out of a car. BUT I'm going to put a huge stipulation on myself that the entire Ute conversion is quickly and easily reversible.
So, a convertible truck.
See that's my issue.
I have an idea that could compete almost for $500 bucks including car purchase. Fleets of them available and a 3' bed just means taking the trunk off it's hinges... would it win? no. but talk about easy to get ready to compete...
4' bed makes that harder. 5' is more realistic and gets people to thinking.
I mean, what's to stop the pontiac/lumina from cutting the top off the back and calling it a truck?
Can I bring the elky and run in the class for exhibition of what a hell of a lot of money and time can do?

Thankfully nothing, nothing at all.
I can't really speak from any challenge experience, but it seems that the point of the truck class would be to see what people do with actual trucks. Cutting off the roof and removing the rear seats from a car might technically be a truck, but it seems to defeat the purpose of this class.
This would probably not raise eyebrows in a national series, but since this is kind of a friendly competition among a small group of guys who seem to be instant friends with everyone else, I'd like to see actual trucks, not cars that stretch the definition.
Now, take a ranger cab and bed and put it on a camaro pan/frame, and I think that would be a truck. :)
edit: I think the operative word in this sub-class is Truck. It's not suggested to be a Pickup Car class or even a Pickup Class. But regardless of what shows up, I'm already looking forward to reading about next year's competition. :)
So just from the periphery, why are locost's not more prevalent at the competition? Is there some rule against tube frame home built cars?

It'd be worth dragging down there just from the sheer "oh E36 M3 I've read about that car for years!" factor.

I have a B15 SE-R that needs an ecm, thatll be cheaper if someone promises to turn it into a ute
I can't be the only one who wants to bring a crew cab long bed dually just for the hilarity of trying to fit it through the autocross, right?
In reply to ¯_(ツ)_/¯:
I was talking to my friends this morning about how my K30 is Challenge qualified. Not a dually but it is a crew cab long bed.
Free to someone who challenges it:
1992 gmc c3500hd 185" wheelbase 19.5 wheels 454/4l80e Giant disc brakes all around
Stipulations: must retain dually and 454 for event
Shorten it, undersling the frame, Z cut it, just get it there and run it. Will include an 8 foot bed that you can chop to fit whatever.
If you fail to show up at the challenge we have a signed agreement that you must bring it back, or at least the chassis and 454. I'm not giving away an HD chassis and 454 unless this shows up, im not the guy to do it as I need to improve on 8th place.
Has a clear ohio title.

where abouts in ohio? cuz I feel like thats something i could make happen
Let's see now......the truck for free, put said 454 in my vette, put my vette 454 in truck.... Two, car/truck both under budget. what could go wrong?
Andy Neuman wrote: How about a minimum bed length of 3'? Will my Q45 ute also be in the running for aristocrat class? Extra bonus points if I can keep it street legal and drive it to the event?
You might end up winning 2 sub-classes!
Just to keep things semi-fair, but to still allow loop holes, I think there should be some kind of test. Like it can transport a 4'x8' piece of plywood in the bed, and it can tow J.G.'s tire trailer at 25 mph. These really seem like truck minimums to me. (I assume the beer keg Miata could be modified to qualify by putting on some bed sides.)
In reply to spin_out: I DO like the 4x8 sheet of Plywood as a rule.Obvious loophole is two 2x4's of any legnth so close that one. Mini trucks can't lay a sheet of plywood down so at least 3x6.
How about give an extra 1/2 concours point for every foot of bed length.
Yes, you could get a perfect concours score with a crappy truck, but you would have to bring a 50 foot bed.
