Boy I do spend a lot of timing fixing other people's cars.

I'm starting my research and as always - it's time sensitive so I'm bugging you guys - sorry!

It's a 2017 Toyota Sienna minivan:
- the sliding door on the passenger side is stuck open.
- It won't manually shut
- It won't shut with the switch and "It yells really loud when you push the button." according to them

- they've pressed the button to turn the doors to manual mode.

I'm about to head over to see if I can at least get it to shut for now.

**edit:
Here's the failure mode:
"I tried to push the button to Buckle up child-4 and it starting yelling. Then barley opened so I pulled it open manually and it went to half way lol"

Check for obstructions, ice, rust, etc.

Is it fully open?

The power sliders on my MPV would occasionally act up near the end of my time with it.  It took a fair amount of effort, but it would slide manually with force.  Lubing the moving bits always seemed to fix it.

Could be the cable mechanism is munged.  There's a guy with a video on replacing that too.  Looks like a big power window mechanism.  I could see that bunching up in a way that would prevent the door from moving at all.

Sounds like an obstruction.

Push the button by the driver's left knee and attempt to close the door manually.

Is what I just got in a text message, lol - Soooooo, i'm not sure. I know nothing about van doors or mechanisms so I'm learning a lot about latches and cables right quick.

Did they try pressing the button by the driver's left knee?

If not, the open mechanism is still powered.  By pressing this button, the door is completely depowered and works like a "regular, old-school" minivan sliding door.

Yes sir, button has been pressed. "Full manual mode" - well, according to them through text messages.

I suspect an obstruction in the track?

I'm guessing it sits outside and not in a cushy warm garage?

This time of year with the recent very cold weather and precip, I'd suspect something frozen.

Yep, it lives outside and that was my first thought as well, it was single digits here in TN for the first time in a good while.

Going over in a few minutes and I'll report back.

Ok, her husband got it close before I could get over there - I'm going to go inspect it later and will report back. I'm hoping it was just an obstruction

I have one - after 2-3 attempts at crushing a toddler or opening into an obstruction, it will stop in its tracks.  At this point, it SHOULD revert to old-school manual mode and wont work again until it is opened to it's stop or shut.  Keep in mind that any kid detritus that is stuck in the door pocket is hidden behind the bodywork when it is open.

The power doors and liftgate mechanism on ours has been 100% reliable despite my family's absolute best effort to destroy them.

Also, if it is the left door, there is a cable interlock with a plunger inside the gas door. The intent is to physically lock out the sliding door if the fuel door is open.  If it is a physical issue, I would take a hard look at that interlock first.  It can cause some problems, especially if someone is trying to open the fuel door and the sliding door at the same time, or if the fuel door isn't totally latched.

Popping the gas door opener by accident has caused a few head-scratching situations with the driver's side sliding door on our van (Odyssey). It's now the first thing I check!
