Kia's three-row SUV starts at about $25,800. However, our test car was priced much higher at $46,200. But that premium meant we got the 3.3-liter V6 engine, all-wheel drive and lots of modern amenities.

In 2013 we made a deal on a new Sorento with the V6 and 3rd row seat for $25K all-in. It was great car and a lot of vehicle for the money. The latest model is nicer inside and out, but $46K for a Sorento like this tester is crazy money--keep the options under $30K and it remains a terrific buy in the mid-size crossover space.

Counterpoint - We replaced our Sorento with a 2016 Sedona minivan. The van does everything, everything our family needs it to do better than the SUV did. Shame about the stigma, cause minivans are The Answer for families.
